Prof. Dr. A. Saravanan, Principal, Nammazhvar College of Agriculture and Technology, Peraiyur, Kamuthy, Ramnad District had completed his B.Sc.(Ag.) during 1977, M.Sc.(Ag.) in 1979 and Ph.D., in 1990 at TNAU, Coimbatore. In initial years of his service he had undergone several short term trainings and attended many workshops. He had been to Massey University, New Zealand for a training Programme under AHRDP. He served at his Alma matter as researcher, teacher and extension worker for 38 years. He is a renowned scientist in chemistry of submerged soils, soil physics, hill soils, and problem soils contributing more than 80 research publications in national and international journals and presented more than 100 papers in seminars and symposia . He got best research water award (Lakshmi Narayana Reddy Medal, 1994 and Konda Reddy Medal, 1995 from MASU.)
As an administrator he was Professor(Edn.) at office of the Dean(PGS), TNAU for 5 years, Unit head, soil physics for 4 years, Professor and Head, in the SS&AC Madurai campus for 3 years and Trichy Campus 4 years and Head, KVK, Thiruvarur for 3 years. He was Warden Students Hostel, AC&RI, and Madurai for 3 years.
As a teacher in SS&AC, Coimbatore, Madurai & Trichy campuses offered various courses for UG, PG & Ph.D for more than 20 years. He has published 6 text books for the benefit of students. Under his guidance 7 M.Sc & 8 Ph.D scholars have reached good positions in their career. He was a member, Board of Studies, Annamalai University for 3 years. He was external examiner for PG and Ph.D students of UAS, KAU & ANGRAU. He has been a reviewer for the soil science Projects for ICAR and DST and Journal like MAJ, Agro bios etc.
